Where learning happens
City to Sanctuary’s living classrooms
Westmoreland Sanctuary, New York
Westmoreland Sanctuary is a protected nature preserve and environmental education center in Mount Kisco, NY, established in 1957 as a not-for-profit nature center and wildlife preserve. It has been City to Sanctuary’s partner in New York since 2011, supporting the program’s development from the beginning and continuing as a core partner today.
Its mature forest, streams, ponds, 8.5 miles of hiking trails, woodlands, and nature museum provide a rich ecological setting where New York City children explore, observe, and learn alongside Westmoreland Sanctuary’s experienced naturalists through immersive, nature-based learning experiences that are aligned with New York State science standards.
All media featured on this site were captured at Westmoreland Sanctuary, where the beauty and richness of the landscape shape the experiences shown here.
Our partner sanctuaries play a vital role in making it possible for students—many of whom have limited access to natural spaces—to build meaningful, lasting connections with the natural world.
Growing our sanctuary network
City to Sanctuary is actively developing additional sanctuary partnerships, including in California, to expand access to immersive nature-based learning for more students and schools.
